Overview

Hiking & Trekking in Tanzania’s "Serengeti of Flowers"

Nestled in Tanzania's Southern Highlands, Kitulo Plateau is affectionately called "Bustani ya Mungu" (God's Garden) by locals. This breathtaking high-altitude sanctuary (2,600m) transforms into a living tapestry of color from November to April when over 350 wildflower species burst into bloom, including 45 types of rare orchids. Did you know? Botanists consider this Africa's most important alpine floral hotspot – it's often called the "Serengeti of Flowers"!

Wildflower Wonderland Trek (Half/Full Day)
Stroll through nature’s art gallery where vibrant lobelias, irises, and proteas create a kaleidoscope underfoot. Our expert guides help spot endemic species like the striking Kitulo gladiolus. Fun fact: This is one of few places where you might see the Kipunji monkey – discovered in 2003! Price includes park fees and botanical guide.

Mount Rungwe Summit Challenge (2 Days)
Conquer the 2,961m volcanic peak towering above the park. The trek winds through misty bamboo forests alive with chameleons and Livingstone’s turacos before emerging onto open ridges with views stretching to Lake Nyasa. Includes camping gear, meals, and hot drinks at high-altitude – because nothing beats coffee with a sunrise view!

Ndumbi Valley Waterfall Expedition (4-5 Hours)
Follow crystal streams through flower-carpeted valleys to hidden waterfalls where you can take a refreshing dip. Keep eyes peeled for the Denham’s bustard performing its elaborate mating dance – their wings make a mysterious “wooping” sound!

Birdwatcher’s Paradise Walk (3 Hours)
With 400+ bird species, including the endangered blue swallow, Kitulo is a twitcher’s dream. We provide high-quality binoculars to spot rainbow-colored malachite sunbirds feeding on giant lobelias.
